In January 2016, the introduction of the Phoenix compensation system began across the federal government and encountered significant performance issues, resulting in thousands of public servants being overpaid, underpaid or inpayment for several months. This would encourage Public Services and Procurement Canada to quickly set up dedicated telephone lines starting in the summer of 2016 to assist public servants affected by problems caused by the payroll system. The Public Service of Canada recruits high school, undergraduate and master`s students for paid full-time and part-time internships through a variety of sources, including the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP), the Research Affiliation Program (RAP) and collaborative programs at post-secondary institutions in Canada.
